A brief About Sonamarg

Location of Sonamarg Sonamarg Gorge is located in the district of Ganderbal, some 80 kilometers from Srinagar, and is surrounded by some of Kashmir's tallest hills. The magnificent heaven is of enormous geographical significance. The famed 'Three Sisters' are a set of rivers (Lidder, Sind, and Neelum) that run parallel to each other and act as tributaries of Jhelum, Kashmir's main river.

It also serves as a connecting point for numerous Himalayan peaks such as Kolahoi, Amarnath, Sirbal, and Machoi, which are surrounded by milky white glaciers such as Kolahoi, Machoi, and Thajiwas.

This keeps the summers cool, but the winters are fairly brutal. Sonamarg is a proud section of the valley because of its strategic location. It serves as the starting point for the journey to Ladakh via Zoji La, a key pass in the Great Himalayan Range that the Srinagar–Leh Road goes over. Sonamarg is also a starting point for the 'Sawan Purnima' pilgrimage (yatra) to the sacred Amarnath cave.
